Throughout his career, Josh has helped guide clients through the most difficult period of their lives: being charged with and/or investigated for a crime. He has taken the skills and techniques gained from complex commercial litigation, class action lawsuits, and high-stakes civil litigation and used those skills to refine the approach he takes in each criminal case. Josh has helped doctors, lawyers, judges, pharmacists, nurses, athletes, entertainers and other professionals survive criminal charges or disciplinary complaints and preserve their professional licenses and careers. He regularly works with experts to help those who are accused challenge the prosecution’s evidence. Josh firmly believes in the presumption of innocence—even in the most unpopular of cases.

After receiving honors from both his law school and his fellow law students, Josh clerked for the New Mexico Supreme Court and earned his courtroom stripes by trying criminal cases as a public defender and as a lawyer in private practice. After a decade of lawyering based out of the state of New Mexico, Josh moved with his family to Portland, where he became the Research and Writing Specialist for the Chief Federal Defender of Oregon. There, he worked on numerous high-profile cases proceeding in the United States District Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and supervised law students beginning their journey into the world of criminal defense.

Although he has helped clients achieve justice in civil courts, Josh has always remained focused on criminal trials and appeals. He has represented individuals charged with a broad array of misdemeanors and felonies—ranging from disorderly conduct, domestic violence and driving under the influence to armed robbery, corporate fraud, drug trafficking, possession of child pornography and sexual abuse of minors.
